Whanganui地區指揮官、警督Neil Forlong表示：“轎車內三名乘員在事故中全部遇難，油罐車司機則因中度傷勢接受治療。”

為確保沒有其他人員涉事，警方還出動直升機協助應急人員對現場周邊區域進行搜尋。

Forlong表示，“三條生命的逝去令人心碎”。

“初步調查顯示，事故發生前轎車可能越過了道路中心線，但具體原因仍是我們調查的重點。”

“最初曾擔心車內可能還有第四人，但目前已確認并不存在這一情況。”

Forlong對緊急救援人員的快速響應表示肯定，并稱他們“面對的是一個非常艱難的現場”。

嚴重事故調查組已完成現場勘查，警方昨日預計道路將于今早恢復通行。目前，事故原因仍在進一步調查中。
