Wei Shen
國際藝術家,1966年出生于廣西天峨,畢業于桂林教育學院美術系,1993年進駐圓明園畫家村,至今工作生活于北京,中國最早的職業畫家之一。
現為英國倫敦大學國王學院客座教授,美國哈佛大學客座教授,北京廣西文化藝術促進會常務副會長兼法人代表,韓中美術推進委員會委員長(中方),“藝術與健康”項目創始人。
2003年-2013年策劃十屆中韓國際藝術交流展,2006年-2010年在美國哈佛大學教授“中國當代藝術”課程。2009年和2013年榮獲韓國政府頒發的“韓中美術交流杰出貢獻獎”。相繼在中國美術館、云峰畫苑、國際藝苑、和美國、荷蘭、瑞典、韓國等多個國家博物館舉辦個人畫展二十余次,參加聯合展五十次。
出版《浮生記:藝術與精神》《韋申當代藝術》等專著。近年來從事“潛意識”、“超驗”繪畫方面的研究,代表系列作品《人山人海系列》《眾生相系列》《游山玩水系列》等。
International independent artist, born in 1966 in Tian’e, Guangxi. He graduated from the Fine Arts Department of Guilin Institute of Education. In 1993, he settled in the Yuanmingyuan Artist Village and has since lived and worked in Beijing, making him one of China’s earliest professional artists.
He currently serves as a Visiting Professor at King’s College London, and as a Visiting Professor at Harvard University. He is also Executive Vice President and Legal Representative of the Beijing Guangxi Cultural and Artistic Promotion Association, Chairman (China side) of the Korea-China Art Promotion Committee, and founder of the “Art and Health” project.
From 2003 to 2013, he organized ten editions of the Korea-China International Art Exchange Exhibition. Between 2006 and 2010, he taught the course “Contemporary Chinese Art” at Harvard University. In 2009 and 2013, he was awarded the “Outstanding Contribution Award for Korea-China Art Exchange” by the Korean government. He has held over twenty solo exhibitions and participated in more than fifty group exhibitions in prestigious venues, including the National Art Museum of China, Yunfeng Art Gallery, International Art Palace, as well as museums in the United States, the Netherlands, Sweden, South Korea, and other countries.
He is the author ofFloating Life: Art and SpiritandWei Shen Contemporary Art. In recent years, his research has focused on “the subconscious” and “the transcendental” in painting. His major series includePeople Mountain People Sea,Sentient Beings, andWandering Through Mountains and Waters, among others.
