躺在床上，月亮還明晃晃地掛在窗外，母親卻已悄悄起身。我知道，她和父親要去稻谷場鋪稻穗了。

我在床上翻來覆去，終究是按捺不住，索性抓起手電筒也出了門。夜色明澈如晝，我卻偏要打著手電——村里的夜太靜了，靜得只聽見蟲鳴唧唧。我加緊腳步，直到看見稻場里那兩個熟悉的身影，心才落回原處。稻谷場打稻子。

“妮子怎么不睡了？”母親直起腰，憐愛的看著我，“來，幫我把這半邊鋪開。”我學著她的樣子，摟起金黃的稻穗，一排壓著一排，梯次鋪展，宛如在大地上作畫。

父親已經套好水牛，牽著石滾上場了。石滾吱嘎吱嘎地唱著古老的歌謠，在稻穗上來來回回。那頭溫順的牛兒，時而專注地轉著圈，時而偷空叼一嘴稻草，時而抬起濕潤的大眼睛望我——那眼睛啊，像極了傳說中牛郎養的那頭神牛，懂事得讓人心疼。任勞任怨的水牛！

傍晚時分，晚霞給天際染上了胭脂。父母把碾好的稻子聚攏成山——那是足有幾千斤的收成啊。我負責將稻谷鏟進竹筐，父親一趟趟挑回家。我總不忍心把筐裝得太滿，父親卻總是接過鏟子：“再加點，爹挑得動。”看著他堅實的背影，聽著扁擔吱呀吱呀的聲響，我覺得父親就像那頭老牛，有著使不完的力氣。
