據極目新聞，有網友發帖稱，在西安外國語大學內部意見反映渠道中，有人詢問“吸煙區可以配備板凳嗎？站著抽好累”，隨后收到學校老師長達數百字的回復。

A student asked on the university's internal feedback platform whether benches could be added to smoking areas, saying that standing while smoking was "too tiring".

對于這一問題，老師回應：

第一，吸煙區不是休閑區，更不是讓你舒舒服服享受煙草的地方。設立它的唯一目的，是為那些暫時無法徹底戒煙的學生提供一個遠離人群、減少二手煙影響的“過渡點”，而不是為了給你提供“抽煙體驗升級”的服務。如果想要坐著舒坦，最好的座位在圖書館、在教室、在操場、在宿舍而不是在吸煙區。

In the reply, the teacher said the smoking area was not meant to be a place for comfort or leisure, but a "transition point" intended to reduce the impact of secondhand smoke on others.

第二，你抱怨“站著累”之前，有沒有想過：你吞云吐霧的時候，周圍不吸煙的同學每天路過要忍多少“累”？你為了緩解煙癮那幾分鐘的不便就受不了，卻對長期危害自己和他人的健康視而不見。

第三，學校不推崇、不支持、不美化吸煙行為。如果連站著抽都覺得辛苦，那請你認真反思：真正讓你累的，不是沒有板凳，而是你離不開煙草的依賴。覺得累，正好少抽兩根，最好徹底不抽。

The teacher also stressed that the university does not encourage, support or glamorize smoking, adding that students who found it tiring to smoke while standing should reflect on their dependence on tobacco and consider quitting.

最后，想給同學說：吸煙區不會增設板凳。如果你實在“站不住”，建議你從今天開始嘗試戒煙。學校愿為任何有戒煙意愿的學生提供幫助，但絕不會為了讓抽煙更舒服而降低管理底線。請珍惜自己的健康。

The response concluded by saying the university would not install benches in smoking areas, but would support students who want to quit smoking.

5月12日，記者從該校相關人員處獲悉，該渠道確為校內意見反映平臺，相關回復由不同部門老師負責。據學生介紹，平時學習和生活中的各類問題均可通過該平臺反映，學校要求教師在規定時限內予以回復，且所有投訴內容與回復信息均對學生公開可見。

新京報評論稱，西外這次被點贊，就是因其拿捏準了邊界：底線之上，是尊重成年人的選擇權；底線之下，是對學生的健康引導。西外用一句“累就對了”，給學生們上了一課——高校不是溫室，學生也不是巨嬰。在原則問題上“不妥協”，在方式方法上“有溫度”，這才是高校管理該有的樣子。
